Taupo Eco Show
Oct 14th, 2007 by Admin

Hi everyone,
If you are visiting here having been at the Transition Towns workshops with Richard Heinberg and myself at the Taupo Eco Show, I thank you for being there and making this an inspiring event. You numbered about 130 people, and be assured that within a week, when I get back home and get my breath back, I will be in touch with you with some ideas and offerings.
In the meantime here are a few places within this site, that you might find useful.
The Links page (see above), will lead you to to all sorts of good places.
The Transition Towns category (see right) will give you all the present articles on this subject. Just note that when you view them from the category link, you see brief portions of each article and will need to click on the “Read Full Post” to see it all.
Feel free to drop me an email with your name and mailing address, if you would like a CD of the Transition Towns kit that a few people were able to get while at the show.
Here is the contents of that CD:
Documents
Energy Descent Pathways – Rob Hopkns.pdf
- Evaluating potential responses to Peak Oil.
Lincoln Sustainability Research – Final.pdf
- Lincoln University (Otago) study.
- Case studies from New Zealand, Canada and Ireland
Open Space Technology
- An excellent overview of this dialogue tool taken from a document titled “Mapping Dialogue”
Transition Initiatives primer 20.pdf
- The Transition Towns establishment process – from Totness in Devon, UK.
Powerpoint presentations
One is from Rob Hopkins and is the slide he is referring to (but which you can’t see) in the “Unleashing” video clips.
The other is the one used by Jo Duff from Hastings. If you can get a copy of her presentation on DVD I highly recommend it. Jo is a humble woman who has bit the bullet and is taking a stand and talking about these issues, out of compassion and a sense of urgency. She speaks clearly and simply, having thoroughly researched her subject. Jo’s email address is: harryandjoy@yahoo.com
Video
The videos are under 10 minutes each. Most are on the subject of Transition Towns – places where people who have come to realise that Peak Oil and Climate Change are real challenges, that will impact on our lives in the not too distant future. These people are coming together to prepare and become more self-reliant as a community. Suggestion: watch the twelve steps 1-6, then 7-12, then the Unleashing videos. For more of these clips go to:

There are also some clips (not specifically related to Transition Towns) which you may find inspiring.
VLC Player software
VLC Media player will play them all, even though they are different formats (.mov and .avi). If you dont have VLC media player please install it – it will take a few minutes only to install. Double click on the file inside the folder that relates to your computer system (Mac or PC). Once this is done these video clips will play by double clicking on them.
